The Zen of Guitar Hero
Five fret rhythm games really are my mental retreat. They are a space where it is fine for my brain to just think about nothing, and have nothing to question.
The objective is clear. Hit the buttons in the right combination, at the right time. No second guessing if my decision is correct -- like when playing AoS against someone and having to play around two possible futures because of the double turn, or when talking to people. There is only one correct sequence of inputs to do and that's it.
I love this so much. It's just me and the highway and the little colored gems approaching me, challenging my fingers to do some Twister type shit to score more points.
And it even comes with the feeling of "Oh shit I got better?" every once in a while.
Getting back into Guitar Hero really was one of the best things I did this year.
If you want to dust off your old plastic instruments: Play some YARG. It's the best casual rhythm game experience you can find, if you don't want to go through the hassle of setting up a modded console.
